Gifts
A gift is the transfer or giving of something be it money, an item , possession or even knowledge, without the need for payment or compensation.
A gift is usually considered a voluntary act which does not/should not require anything in return.
A gift is meant to be free and for nothing in return, even though it is sometimes seen to involve the giving back of something now or in the future, or a return in the form of prestige or power.
Gift Giving
The giving of a gift is seen as a gesture of kindness or even sometimes as a gesture of forgiveness or love and can refer to anything that makes the other person happier or in some cases less sad.
When material objects are given as gifts, in many cultures they are traditionally wrapped or presented in some way to make them appear more attractive and enable the person receiving the gift to have an element of surprise. Gift note or tags usually accompany the gift which may note the occasion, the giftee's name, and the giver's name.
Gifts are given for a number of reasons but are most commonly given to a person/number of people for a particular occasion or celebration, for example a person’s birthday, wedding day, wedding anniversary, Christmas, birth of a new baby, valentine’s day, father’s day, mother’s day.
Gift Examples
Some examples of the most common types of gifts include cards, flowers, chocolates, wine, cakes, biscuits and toys. A gift experience (e.g. a spa day, racing day, clay pigeon shooting day, go karting or ballooning trip) is becoming a popular alternative to a traditional gift. Likewise personalised items or goods that detail your name or date of birth are also now extremely popular gifts.
